additionally if I m keep on trying to press the power button, sometimes it couldnt start but sometimes it could start loading and back to normal, but after awhile it will shut itself again back to stand by mode (red light power button), could it be the ac-dc adaptor?

Re: another serius problem, playon suddenly turn off by itself
Gday
I have not experienced that with my PlayonDVR . I have only had it for a week
It may be a heat problem and the chip is shutting down to heat, It is probably best to take it back to the place of purchase
Cheers

Cheers yes this is really strange , please do go back and ask for tech-check by the place you purchased it and if the device is faulty, replace with a new one . Thanks Reficul

Re: another serius problem, playon suddenly turn off by itself
I found the problem, its not due to adapter or high temp but when ever I put a light pressure on top of the playon cover it will get power failure and when I release it again the power will be restored, I ve feeling that the internal HDD (Im using 2 TB western digital) touching some component that caused short circuit, it cud be the casing of HDD is too thick and the metal part has touched something inside. This could be playon design problem, I need a technical person to answer this possibility. Anyone also encounter this problem?

Re: another serius problem, playon suddenly turn off by itself
I wonder this will happen in all units that used WD 2TB HDD internal or only problem in my unit? because if it happen to all units then exchanging the unit will be useless... or can I just open the box and put some insulator to avoid metal touching... technical support pls reply... thx.

Re: another serius problem, playon suddenly turn off by itself
Gday
I run a WD 20EARS drive in my PlayonDVR and have not encountered this problem.
The only thing I noticed when installing the HDD. Is the connector for the fan can come stuck between the HDD and heatsink on the Chip. I just had to gently push it to the side on HDD install. I would probably check all the plugs on the board too Try and avoid putting insulating foam in there, as there is minimal room and you block airflow to the circuit board
I would still take it back to place of purchase. and get them to check it
Cheers

Hi,
I have the same setting as well and no such issue so far. I had to carefully push two cables when plugging the HDD. Both are a bit short (or not flexible enough) so you need to do that with some care.
Cheers, Matt

Re: another serius problem, playon suddenly turn off by itself
after further testing, seems the problem not come from the internal HDD, but more likely is that the mainboard that attached to the box cover is touching to the metal cover when it got pressed. So, I brought back to the shop and got the box exchanged, problem gone now, thx for the good service.
