Post [HOW-TO] Prevent the PlayON!HD from automatically rebooting!
Hi PlayON!HD Owners,

due to several problems regarding the autoscan function which makes the unit go into an infinite reboot loop here is a little how-to fix this problem. The main reason this happens is because some files/folders are damaged on the HDD due to unexpected shutdowns for examples. Second reason can be that the actual scan database is corrupted for a simliar reason.
You have basically 2 ways of doing this:

I. repair the HDD:
1. switch off the player first
2. connect it with the included USB cable to the PC / Laptop
3. switch the player on (player will go into usb slave mode and the hdd appear in your computer)
4. let the Operating System scan the HDD and fix the errors or do a chkdsk /f from the dos command prompt.
5. on the HDD delete the '.THEATER' folder (this will remove the database)
6. in Windows use Safe Removal Tool to remove the HDD (PlayonHD)
7. disconnect the USB Cable and wait until the player rebooted

The unit should come back as expected and work normal again. If this fails for some reason and the unit is still rebooting please try II.

II. disable autoscan storage
1. switch off the player first
2. remove the HDD!
2.1. in the HD1/DVR remove the 2 screws on underside of the player and take out the HDD. Be carefull there is two sata cables connected to it which you have to remove.
2.2. in the HD2 remove the HDD from the EZ-Drive slot on the left side of the player
3. power on the player
4. goto SETUP -> SYSTEM -> Autoscan Storage and disable this option
5. goto SETUP -> SYSTEM -> Clear History Function and switch this on (pre r4585) or just press 'Enter' to clear the cache and history (r4585+)
6. now switch off the player again
7. put back in the HDD (same way as you removed it)
7.1. at this point i'd recommend to follow the steps provided in I. as well just to make sure the HDD is properly cleaned / fixed.
8. switch the player on again and the unit should start as usual.

NOTE: Please be aware that if you have corrupted files/folders on your HDD and you scan them or let them fix they might get deleted. So if you have important files on the HDD backup them first before fixing!

Questions / Suggestions?

best regards,
