Hi all,
01net, one of France’s main news and reviews websites, has just published their review of the Playon!DVRHD. It impressed the reviewer and, like the Playon!HD and Playon!HD Mini before it, has received four out of five stars! Here is a summary in English.
“An excellent platform for your living room”“In the package, in addition to the product, is a bunch of cables: HDMI (braided cable and plugs gold plated), RCA composite, component and USB. A small portable antenna is also available, and even spare screws for loss during the change of the hard disk.
On the product housing, there are interfaces galore. We'll just mention that the eSATA port for connecting high performance external drives is there. For transfer between the PC and Playon!DVR, we use the USB 2.0 interface, which very good: up 32.92 MBps writing and 34.93 MBps read for files 700MB. To transfer MP3, it remains at 27 MB / s write and 33.53 MB / s read, a very good result. The Playon!DVR is equipped with a small ventilator of 4cm to dissipate the heat produced by its electronic chips and its hard drive. Playon!DVR remains very quiet in reading: only 34,7 dB. It is inaudible in the normal use.
The graphical interface of the Playon!DVR has the advantage of not continuing with the very minimalist themes submitted by the chipset manufacturer. The welcome menu is equipped with improved aesthetics and is especially very fluid and perfectly responsive. Browsing files was handled quickly and we did not observe any crashes, which is always appreciated.
Like his colleague the Playon!HD Mini, the device reads all formats available. The management of MKV is perfect. Anything goes: H.264, subtitles, choice of the soundtrack and Dolby and SDR multichannel.
You will also appreciate compatibility with the codec of audio compression without Flac loss and free codec of OGG Vorbis. FLV Flash and Real RMVB are also properly managed. Rest assured, the classic formats MP3, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-2, VOB and TS are also taken into account.
Once connected to a router, the Playon!DVR can act as NAS on a lan, managing BitTorrent remote loadings, and above all can be controlled remotely. The programming system of recording programmes remotely, on a Web page and using EPG, is available online.
The reading of video files in streaming will require a good connection to the internet at all times.
The Playon!DVR is an excellent platform for the living room, one of most qualified in its sector in terms of multi-media compatibility and software reliability”
