Post Playon!DVr hd ATSC / North America
I was disappointed to find out that the A.C. Ryan PlayOn!DVRHD would not be available with ATSC tuners or with removable tuners so you could put your own ATSC tuners in. I am wondering if I am in a small group or are there a lot of people from North America that would like this in ATSC.

I emailed tech support and asked if the tuners could be removed and replaced with ATSC tuners here is what they sent me back.

"Hi,

Good day to you.

So sorry it would not be possible, first the connection is different and the unit part in not design as plug and play. Right now the player has two model one comes with Analog and DVB-T tuner, the other one comes with Dual DVB-T tuner.

Do refer to us again if you have any further inquiry. Thanks for supporting ACRyan.

Best Regards,

Technical Support Team"

Agreed. ACRyan is missing a big market here. U.S. is starting to trend away from pay TV in the U.S. and only a couple options for DVRs exist for over the air TV. Those either require service fees, expensive equipment, or media centers with tuner cards.

If AC Ryan added ATSC and compatibility with PlayOn software for internet streaming services, they would quickly own the PVR streaming market in the U.S.

I still find it funny that AC Ryan's Playon and PlayOn software share similar names, market in the same technology space, and yet don't work together or according to PlayOn support even recognize the existence of each others products.

TVIX M6620N is a dual PVR similar to AC Ryan's Playon with ATSC tuners (might be specific to this model as I understand so far), but to my knowledge at this point also does not work with PlayOn. I hope one of these two companies make the investment to take on the untapped U.S. market soon.
