Post Analog recording needed for testing USB stick in DVD player
Hi all,

I'm looking for an analog TV recording of the AC Ryan Playon device (say about 1 or 2 minutes in length, in .mpg format), which I can put on an USB stick to check if this recording can be played on an DVD player with USB input, like these models from Philips for example:

Philips DVP-3260: http://www.consumer.philips.com/consume ... DVP3260-12

Philips DVP-3350: http://www.consumer.philips.com/consume ... DVP3350-12

Philips DVP-3360:http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/nl/nl/consumer/cc/_productid_DVP3360_12_NL_CONSUMER/DVD-speler+DVP3360-12

Philips DVP-3380: http://www.consumer.philips.com/consume ... DVP3380-12

I want my recordings to be 'portable' on USB stick, so I can watch them all around the house on different TV systems (with DVD players with USB inputs), not PC's.

If any of you guys already have experience with this, please share the information (and please upload a test recording here on the forum) here!

Thanks a million!

Hey djke, welcome!

I just did a quick recording - dont mind the content :), there's little choices on TV on a saturday morning.

I recorded in different quality settings so you can also check the video quality at different settings. Basically 3 settings record at 720x576 with different compression ratios for quality-filesize, and 2 settings record at 352x576 for even smaller file sizes.

Here are 2 recordings at HQ (the highest quality) and SLP (the smallest file size):

Recording quality setting : HQ / length 35s / 40,6mb
Video: MPEG2 Video 720x576 (4:3) 25.00fps 9800Kbps [Video (ID 224 @ Prog# 0)]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 256Kbps [Audio (ID 192 @ Prog# 0)]
* this information audio/video specs is provided on my computer's video player

Recording quality setting : SLP / length 41s / 9,4mb
Video: MPEG2 Video 352x576 (4:3) 25.00fps 9800Kbps [Video (ID 224 @ Prog# 0)]
Audio: MPEG Audio 48000Hz stereo 192Kbps [Audio (ID 192 @ Prog# 0)]
* this information audio/video specs is provided by my computer's video player

These recordings were done with the analog tuner. From the playback screen, use Title Edit to copy to FAT32. In this playback screen you can also rename the recording to a meaningful name (I believe many DVDRs esp. earlier generations cannot do this). Once the files are on the FAT32, I can see it from computer (in the NAS drive). Went to Windows Live Spaces Skydrive page with Explorer, dragged and dropped the files, click upload, done. From recording to internet takes almost no effort :)

We'll post more video recording samples (analog, digital etc) and write about it in a blog post on the PlayonDVR blog later this week. We've been wanting to write more blog articles - I believe this makes an a good topic.

Post Re: Analog recording needed for testing USB stick in DVD player
Hi Yap,

Thanks again for the recordings!

I eventually bought the Philips DVP-3380 DVD player
(http://www.consumer.philips.com/consume ... DVP3380-12)
and it works like a dream!

I can record on the AC Ryan, place it on USB (or record straight to USB), just plug it in on the Philips DVD player and it plays brilliantly, nice quality and good colors. Only thing that maybe can be approved if chapter numbers could be supported, e.g. you can zap through your recordings with a 15 minutes interval for example, just like on the Playon.

If you guys have any questions left, just let me know.

Bye!
